Natural Selection by Dave White

Internationally acclaimed artist, Dave White, is to unveil a new collection of work, in association with limited edition gallery artrepublic, at The Hospital Club, London in June 2012.

Friday 22nd June to Saturday 7th July

Private View: Thursday 21st June, 6 - 9pm

Public access 10am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 11am to 6pm Saturday

The Natural Selection exhibition will comprise a large scale installation of oil paintings, works on paper and limited editions that will exclusively reveal White’s new subject matter; an exploration of threatened animal species presented in the artist’s trademark dynamic and kinetically charged aesthetic.

White says of this series of work ‘Natural Selection encompasses the beauty, majesty and magnificence of incredibly rare animals. Their threatened existence hangs in the balance, where natural camouflage is no longer a reliable defence, leaving them vulnerable and exposed. The collection explores these dynamics, through the violent, expressive movement and abstracted patination of oil paint and water colour. Large scale installations and contemporary execution will aim to challenge the viewer to reassess this subject matter in our modern world. Where once we would hunt these subjects for display trophies, now we must face the fact that our impact upon them is threatening their very survival.’

Dave White’s energetic brand of contemporary Pop Art enjoys both critical acclaim and commercial success. Selected for the Northern Graduates show at the Royal College of Art, he has since exhibited internationally with highlights including the People’s Square Exhibition Hall (Shanghai), Dia Art Centre (New York), Centre for Arts (Rotterdam) and Liverpool International Biennial of Contemporary Art.

More recently White has exhibited with the 'Project on Creativity' with Chuck Close at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, where he will exhibit again later this year in 'CNNCTD+100' showcasing the 100 most cultural influencers of this generation.

Hear My Train a Comin' - Hendrix Hits London

EMP IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE HOSPITAL CLUB BRING A MAJOR NEW EXHIBITION TO LONDON TO CELEBRATE JIMI HENDRIX’S 70th BIRTHDAY.

Hear My Train a Comin': Hendrix Hits London @ The Hospital Club Gallery: 18 July - 31 August 2012

Summer 2012 sees the arrival of a magical new exhibition in London, to celebrate what would have been Jimi Hendrix’s 70th birthday. Hear My Train a Comin’: Hendrix Hits London, presented by Seattle’s EMP Museum, will run at in The Hospital Club’s iconic gallery space from 16 July – 31 August 2012.

Hear My Train a Comin’: Hendrix Hits London focuses on Hendrix’s quick rise to prominence in the London music scene, from his arrival in the UK on September 24, 1966 to his brief return to America to play at the Monterey International Pop Festival on June 18, 1967. In less than nine months, Hendrix had transitioned from unknown guitar-slinger to darling of the British music press, and was poised on the edge of superstardom.

The exhibition will include over 100 artifacts, some of which have never been exhibited before. They include such gems as Jimi’s original blues records, photographs, fan letters, as well as iconic items of his clothing such as his “Westerner” hat (which he wore frequently in 1967 – 1968 and is wearing on the cover of his 1968 Smash Hits album). Further exhibition videos will incorporate many oral history interviews with myriad musicians and people related to Hendrix’s story, such as Jeff Beck, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Iggy Pop, Al Hendrix, Charles Shaar Murray, Ravi Shankar and Joey Ramone.

The exhibit comes through collaboration of two projects from philanthropist and investor Paul G. Allen. EMP was founded by Allen, the Microsoft co-founder, in his hometown of Seattle in 2000. It is an acclaimed, interactive museum of music, pop culture and science fiction. Allen opened The Hospital Club in 2002 as a new professional and social hub for people working in the creative arts.

Tickets are on sale from Wednesday 28th March via ATG: 0844 871 3039

Free admission to members of The Hospital Club upon presentation of your membership card.

Residents of the Borough of Camden are also entitled ot free admission to the exhibition on Mondays and Tuesday only upon presentation of a valid utility bill or proof of residence and some photo ID (1 ticket per resident).

Breast Cancer Care 2012

Show your support for Breast Cancer Care and celebrate the countdown to the Virgin London Marathon with The Hospital Club.

Whilst the majority of us will be supporting from the sidelines rather than actually running, it’s irrefutable, even in a year which sees us host the Olympics for only the second time, that the London Marathon is a sporting highlight of 2012. It’s also an epic achievement and in April we’ll be giving our support to Breast Cancer Care, one of the many charities involved in this year’s marathon. We’ll be screening Breast Cancer Care’s new promotional advert before every film we screen in our cinema, so pop your head into the cinema between now and 22 April and you’ll get the opportunity to this see this short as well as the usual preview and current release screenings.

We’ll also be supporting Breast Cancer Care by making a commitment to donate £2 from every Cucumber & Elderflower Martini sold in the club in the run up to the big day. This year Breast Cancer Care has teamed up with the Prostate Cancer Charity to be the joint official charity for the race on 22 April. Jointly, they are calling ourselves TeamPB and now have more than 800 runners participating who will raise over £1 million, we think that’s something to celebrate!

So whether it’s by watching the advert in our cinema, sponsoring a friend who’s running, grabbing yourself a Cucumber & Elderflower Martini at the bar, or by shouting at the top of your lungs in support, we encourage you all to get involved with this year’s marathon in whatever way you can.
